A merry personality

Breed standards describe the beagle with one perfect word: merry. It fits.

Endlessly social

Beagles were bred to hunt in packs, so company is not a preference, it is a need. They tend to adore people, children, other dogs, and basically anyone who might be hiding food. A beagle left alone for long hours will let the neighborhood know about it.

Curious beyond reason

Every smell must be investigated, every bag inspected, every open door explored. This curiosity is charming and slightly dangerous: beagles are gifted escape artists when a scent calls from the other side of the fence.

Gentle and forgiving

Underneath the mischief is a soft, affectionate dog with very little aggression in the breed. They are famously patient with kids and quick to forgive, especially if the apology includes a treat.

The result is a small dog with an enormous presence: cheerful, loud, hungry, nosy, and impossible not to love.
